2008, Mixed media -acrylic paint, ink, and colored pencil (8 X 11 inches) This picture is based on an abstract acrylic painting that I did using a method that was described to me by James Koehnline. The technique is called decalcomania, and has been used by surrealists and abstract painters for a number of years now. Basically, you put some paint on some paper, glass, acetate, etc. and then put another piece of paper (or whatever) on top and move it around. Pulling the two pieces of paper apart will create random patterns. In this case I used acetate. After pulling the two pieces of acetate apart, I scanned them, then printed some on bristol paper, and then used a pen and colored pencils to describe shapes.
